I always do what I can to see Murder by Death when they inevitably roll through town every year. However, this was my first time seeing MeWithoutYou. Although I have heard quite a bit of their music, I’ll admit they fall a bit outside of my musical comfort zone. The show started was opened by Buried Beds, Murder by Death played second and MeWithoutYou rounding out the evening. Murder by Death played a great set, although the all ages atmosphere didn’t really provide the raucous bar room crowd I’m used to seeing at a MBD show. MeWithoutYou was forced to play a rushed set due to some technical problems during set up. They played their set with no breaks, no banter between songs, trying to give the crowd every song they could. My favorite part of the evening was frontman Aaron Weiss playing acoustically in front of the club to make up for the shortened set, taking requests and chatting with the crowd of of fifty or sixty people outside.

In my experience, no banter between songs during a mewithoutyou set is a good thing. This is coming from a mewithoutyou fan.
