“I’ve spent a lot more time thinking about the world I’d like to live in, than the world that we do live in,” Mark Vollenweider told Little Village. During a studio visit, the Iowa City artist talked about discovering his artistic medium, the impact of COVID-19 and politics on his work and how anger can stifle art.
Vollenweider, who started drawing as a young child growing up in Waterloo, doesn’t strive for strict realism in his work, but instead presents an “impression of people or impressions of a situation or a type of person, just from my perspective.”
