Tina Fey introduces SNL’s season 39 newbies:
When Saturday Night Live reps announced last month that Brooks Wheelan — a University of Iowa alum — had joined the show for its 39th season, I like to think that Iowans across the state beamed with pride, pointed up at their televisions and yelled, “Look, look! They’re talking about one of us!” It’s just something we (but certainly not you, dear reader) do as Iowans.
Born in Cedar Rapids and raised in Manchester, Iowa, Wheelan made his way to Los Angeles after graduating from the University of Iowa in 2009 (with a degree in biomedical engineering, no less), where he quickly cultivated a resumé to make any budding stand-up blush. Before getting picked up by Lorne Michaels and company at SNL, Wheelan gained experience at The Second City, The Laugh Factory and participated in numerous high-profile comedy festivals like the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal.
