When asked about student loan reform and the inaccessibility of higher education for millions of young Americans in a recent interview with Little Village, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) says, “We need a political revolution that brings tens of millions of people together in a way that we are not right now so that we can stand up to the people in this country who truly have the power.” Pausing to shrug his shoulders in exasperation he adds, “We donโ€™t talk about this enough.”

“The only way you transform America is when millions of people are standing behind a progressive agenda,” he says. “The president canโ€™t do it alone.”

Here, Sanders talks about the importance of collective organizing, social media’s essential rallying power, and the limits of the presidency for enacting swift and lasting change:

  1. “inaccessibility of higher education”? On what planet? It is super easy to be admitted to a college, get high and get loans to finance both.
