Shannon Jackson, “The Way We Perform Now”

Guggenheim Fellow Shannon Jackson presents her talk “The Way We Perform Now” today at the Iowa City Public Library from 3 – 5 p.m. Her lecture covers collaborations and partnerships between visual and performing artists, and examines the interpretive role that the humanities play in arts communities.
Jackson is in Iowa City as a guest of the University of Iowa Obermann Center for Advanced Studies. She is a professor of Rhetoric and of Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies at the University of California-Berkeley.
Jackson is a national leader in advocating for and critiquing cross-disciplinary experimental performance work, especially as it involves humanities studies, artists, arts organizers and other players in public and institutional art settings.
She is the author of Social Works: Performing Art, Supporting Publics (2011) an analysis of performance, visual and social practice art.
