Lil Bibby w. King Dough, Young Red, LT Mentality
Blue Moose Tap House — Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Lil Bibby, a rising Chicago rapper and 2014 XXL Freshman performs at The Blue Moose Tap House on Thursday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. for his “Get To Know Me” tour.
Hailing from the east side of Chicago and flaunting a hard exterior and a deep voice, it’s easy on first glance to peg Lil Bibby as just another drill rapper. However, the lyrical caliber and intensity the 20-year-old MC delivers has set him apart, drawing critical praise from hip-hop press and rappers like Earl SweatShirt, Mac Miller and Drake, who arguably got the ball rolling for Bibby’s rap career when he posted a clip to instagram of Bibby rapping with Lil Herb on the track “Kill Sh*t.”
Bibby’s debut 2013 mixtape Free Crack was hailed for its innovative depictions of Chicago street life. The stories delivered in Bibby’s rhymes are no less raw than his Chicago drill peers, but he manages to cut these no-nonsense lyrics with moments of authenetic introspection. Not an easy feat for a young rapper coming into a scene where braggadocio is worn on the sleeve. Last September, Bibby released the follow-up mixtape Free Crack 2 and it was met with similar praise and popularity.
A lot of speculation surrounds how Bibby’s first official release, The Book, will be received when it eventually comes out, but regardless of that, Bibby has already established himself as a rapper to watch.
