US Cellular Center — Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
If you missed seeing Kesha at 80/35 in Des Moines this summer, you’ll get another chance next month in Cedar Rapids — for free.
The pop star will perform at the U.S. Cellular center on Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. The venue’s namesake, U.S. Cellular, is presenting the concert to recognize the 30th anniversary of when the company began offering cellular phone service in Cedar Rapids. The regional carrier, which serves 23 states, was formed 35 years ago and is headquartered in Chicago. They have a strong presence in Iowa; along with naming rights for the Cedar Rapids arena, they are the title sponsor of the U.S. Cellular 250, a NASCAR Xfinity Series race, at the Iowa Speedway in Newton, sponsor University of Iowa Athletics, and have been the presenting sponsor of 80/35 since its beginning.
Kesha’s third album, Rainbow, was released in August of last year. It was her first in five years, due to a continuing dispute with producer Dr. Luke, whom she has accused of sexual and emotional abuse (he has denied the claims). She did not prevail in her efforts to get out of her contract (and still owes him two albums), but did not have to work with Dr. Luke directly on the album, producing two tracks herself and working with a variety of other producers. Rainbow hit number one on the Billboard weekly charts and marked Kesha’s first Grammy nominations, for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance for the single “Praying.”
Tickets for the free Cedar Rapids concert will be available on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 10 a.m., at seven area U.S. Cellular retail locations: three in Cedar Rapids, two in Iowa City, and one each in Coralville and North Liberty (see list here). Each store will have 350 tickets available. Fans must be 16 or older to pick up tickets, which will be distributed in pairs, first come first served.
Additional tickets will be given away by radio station Z102.9 during live, on-site remotes over the course of October. Dates and locations will be announced one hour prior. In addition, U.S. Cellular is offering chances to win V.I.P. passes.
