2015 Iowa Organic Conference

IMU — Sunday and Monday, Nov. 22 and 23

This Sunday and Monday, Nov. 22-23, the Iowa Memorial Union (125 N Madison St, Iowa City) will host the 15th Annual Iowa Organic Conference — a celebration of the biodiversity of organic farming. The two-day festival includes exhibits, networking events and speakers, including the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York’s “Farmer of the Year,” Klaas Martens.

Martens and his partner Mary-Howell Martens operate organic feed and seed business, Lakeview Organic Grain, and farm 1,400 acres of certified organic crops.

Festival sessions will teach attendees about the newest techniques for organic farming, and provide tips for improving organic operations. Topics include farming with pollinators and advice for growing specialty vegetables.

On Monday, a special lunch event will feature local and organic produce, along with meat provided by UI award-winning Executive Chef Barry Greenberg.
