Tom Brokaw, the University of Iowa dropout who went on to host the NBC Nightly News for 22 years, announced in Nov. 2016 he was donating his personal archive of materials from his long career to UI. After a year of a preparation, that archive was opened to students and researchers on Thursday. It is housed in the Special Collections of the UI Main Library.
Brokaw discussed the archive, and his time at UI, during a segment on NBC’s Today Show on Thursday morning.
Brokaw only attended UI for one year, 1958-59, before dropping out. “I went from whiz kid to college dropout,” was how Brokaw described his academic career at UI. He eventually completed an undergraduate degree at the University of South Dakota.
