Gabe’s — Friday, March 6 at 8 p.m.

Three performers are putting on an evening of hip hop and spoken word tonight at Gabe’s.

“The night will be one of beats, words, creativity, intense performance and local flair,” said Kate Hawkbaker-Krohn, who will perform spoken-word poetry along with Carl Jan Christian Roth. They’re joined by Carlos Devone, a hip-hop artist who recently relocated to Iowa City and released an album this February. Devone will perform with percussionist Adam Condit.

Hawkbaker-Krohn performs and works with the Iowa City performance series Was the Word and Roth co-founded the VoiceBox Poetry poetry reading series in Cedar Rapids. The show should serve as good introduction to anyone interested in the local scene for spoken-word performance.

The show is free and open to all ages.
