The grungy blues-based group are currently promoting the May release of their upcoming album, “Brothers”. Consisting of guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney, The Black Keys have opened for Beck, Radiohead and Pearl Jam among others, garnering critical acclaim since their 2002 debut album, The Big Come Up. The two grew up together in Akron, OH, forming The Black Keys in 2001.
In a review of the group’s 2008 studio album, Attack and Release, produced by Danger Mouse, Pitchfork Media said:
[Dangermouse] colors the band’s no-frills narratives with futuristic accents or, on the opposite end, rural flourishes of psychedelia and folk. On each track they add a bolt of surprise that amplifies the pitch-black mood and message.
