Iowa City’s music aficionados are already well-aware of the impending Tapes ‘n Tapes visit to The Mill this weekend, but what you may not have heard is that this highly-acclaimed group will be putting on a special performance earlier in the day live from the KRUI 89.7 FM studios, hosted by Little Village Magazine.
You’ll be able to listen using your radio or live online via the KRUI website, but if you happen to miss it, we’ll have plenty of video from the in-studio performance available the following day on the Little Village Magazine Youtube channel. We’re making a weekend of it!
Tapes ‘n Tapes garnered a cult following after the release of their self-titled debut EP in 2004, but it wasn’t until the re-release of their second album in 2006, The Loon, that the band’s popularity reached critical mass. A glowing review of that same album by Pitchfork Media didn’t hurt, either.
Often compared to Pavement, Tapes ‘n Tapes pits dense guitar interplay against opaque–yet catchy–vocals, attracting a host of praise from mainstream and indie-niche critics alike. If you’ve somehow avoided Tapes ‘n Tapes thus far, give them a listen below. If you like what you hear, join us tomorrow afternoon on KRUI or later in the evening at The Mill for what should be the must-see show of the weekend.
