Suspicious text messages sent to Johnson and Linn County voters direct them to the wrong polling place (Updated)

More than 200 neglected chickens, ducks and other birds removed from farm near Solon
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa City Animal Services removed more than 200 birds from an abandoned farmstead two mile southeast of Solon on Saturday. The 110 ducks and geese, 76 chickens and 49 pigeons were being kept in filthy conditions in sheds, without proper access to water, the Sheriff’s Office told The Gazette. The bodies of numerous dead birds were also found on the property, but it hasn’t been determined how those birds died.
Early voting starts in Johnson County
Early voting in Johnson County for the Nov. 7 election started on Wednesday. Voters will be able to cast ballots at the Auditor’s office in the Johnson County Administration Building in Iowa City. The office will be opened from7:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The office will also be open on Sunday, November 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sen. Grassley skips town hall meetings in Johnson, Linn and other big Iowa counties for the fifth straight year
Last week, the office of Sen. Chuck Grassley announced Iowa’s senior U.S. Senator had completed another annual tour of all the state’s 99 counties. But once again, he skipped town halls in the biggest counties.
Johnson County and Iowa City say they’ll honor the Paris Agreement
The Johnson County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution Thursday, June 8 committing to honor the goals of the Paris Agreement on climate change from which President Donald Trump recently withdrew the United States. The City of Iowa City passed a similar resolution Tuesday, June 6.
Local groups work to expand Johnson County Community ID program
Local groups came together today to plan a series of events for July 17 to promote the two-year-old Johnson County Community ID program in an effort to expand usage and share information about updates to the ID itself.
