Experience the musical variety of the 319 as festival fills Czech Village with sound

The sixth edition of Three One Nine Music & Arts Festival, which focuses on bands based in the 319 area code, will take over Czech Village on Saturday, July 29. The free, all ages event is presented in association with the Czech Heritage Association and will highlight a variety of musical styles including indie rock, metal¸ punk, electronic, hip hop, folk and more.

New Concerts at the Creek series set to attract new visitors to Indian Creek Nature Center

The Indian Creek Nature Center (5300 Otis Rd SE, Cedar Rapids), a longtime resource to nature enthusiasts, has recently updated and upgraded its campus. As part of that effort, the staff conducted some research to discover what sort of offerings the community might value. One result of that effort: the new Concerts at the Creek Series (see schedule below), which will feature concerts held at the organization’s new amphitheater.

Alisabeth Von Presley plays Uptown Friday Nights, drops new album this week

Alisabeth Von Presley is arguably the living embodiment of “go big or go home.” And as her musical career continues to pick up steam, she has no intention of sitting around at home. This Friday, July 7, is a big day for Von Presley as she performs at Uptown Friday Nights at the McGrath Amphitheater and releases her new record, ‘Diamonds in the Blackout.’ Uptown Friday Nights shows are 21+; admission is $5.

Czech Village Blues will bring two nonprofits together for concert, fundraising

Area blues fans have had the blues since the final Bluesmore event in 2015. The Linn County Blues Society had a two decade run with their annual daylong event on the lawn of the Brucemore mansion in Cedar Rapids, but for the last couple of years the enthusiastic fans of the music have had to do without. A new collaboration between the Linn County Blues Society and the Friends of Czech Village will give the event new life in a new home under a new name.

Obsidian Sword and Third Base honor the Gospel of Doom, the Gospel of Brew

Iowa City’s archdruids of doom metal, Obsidian Sword, will celebrate the release of the second batch of its namesake IPA from Third Base Brewery on Sunday, March 19 at Otis’ Tailgators Sports Bar in Cedar Rapids. Long-time defenders of doom and Iowa powerhouse, Aseethe, who just released their new album Hopes of Failure on Chicago label Thrill Jockey, will support the show alongside Cedar Falls’ weedians, Megapunch.
