In the latest round of celebrity get-out-the-vote efforts here in Iowa, folk/blues musician Ben Harper will be appearing in Cedar Rapids for a concert at Iowa Brewing Company (708 3rd St. SE) in support of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Harper, who’s most recent album, Call It What It Is, was released in April of this year, will be encouraging Iowans to continue to vote early, ahead of next Tuesday’s formal Election Day. Iowans have been able to vote early since Sept. 29, and doing so has been the focus of several campaign efforts this year, including Iowa City visits by Sean Astin and Amber Tamblyn, and a stop in Cedar Rapids by Clinton herself last week.

Harper, whose first record came out in 1994, has three Grammy awards — most recently, an award in 2014 for Best Blues Album, for Get Up!, recorded with Charlie Musselwhite. His most recent album, his third with The Innocent Criminals, has a decidedly social justice bent.
