Six Organs of Admittance
The Mill — Saturday, May 9 at 10 p.m.
Ben Chasny, the experimental guitarist behind Six Organs of Admittance, brings his music and an entirely new system of musical composition to The Mill this Saturday.
Six Organs of Admittance tours in support of the recently released Hexadic, an album featuring songs created through Chasny’s unique “hexadic system.” The system assigns notes from a fretboard and other musical features for guitar to a set of ordinary playing cards. A guitarist can use the cards to build a composition through a system of chance and combination, hopefully helping them explore new musical territory in the process.
The hexadic system is heady to say the least, but Chasny has outlined his approach in great detail, along with creating an instructional manual and a set of specially designed cards. While some critics have written off the results of Chasnyโs hexadic works as โchallenging,โ it is unlikely to disappoint fans of Six Organs of Admittance who turn out not to hear crowd pleasers but to revel in the experimental mishmash of folk, psychedelia and rock the act has built its reputation on.
