Friday’s show at Revival featured solo performances in a funky clothing shop. I didn’t get there in time to see Alexis Stevens open, but I did see Eugene Kelley play honest, workingman’s folk. His earnest voice has the right amount of gravel; not by pretense, but by raw emotion.
Golden Birds’ Roger plays driving guitar but has a vulnerable voice: a slight sibilance, sometimes wavering, but never wandering. He closed with a cycle of re-done 80s pop hits with new lyrics, a project called the Expat EP. It was cheesy and familiar, yet also new and intelligent.
Mission Creek is bringing you amazing, intimate experiences in unexpected places.
