Another Wednesday at PS1 brought another great band to the KRUI airwaves. This week, I had the pleasure of hearing the  Tribal Momentum. This four-piece reminded me of some of the great jam bands of the late 90s, but I wouldn’t label them as a jam band proper. They’re better than that. Their sound is infused with tastes of blues,  funk and soul.  Gabriel’s vocals are beautifully rough – the voice of a wise old man emerging from a young, talented guitarist. The hazy guitar riffs are nicely juxtapositioned with the smooth saxaphone melodies that Shawn emits and the pulsing rhythms of Rob on drums and Abdala on the congas.

From what I’ve been reading about them, I think their lineup varies slightly, leaving room for surprises in their developing sound. Tribal Momentum’s music is definately danceable and I think you all should do just that….

They are playing a show at the Yacht Club TONIGHT (Friday the 12th) with Taj Weekes and Adowa. Doors at 9, show at 10. Bring 7 bones to get in.
