Scope Productions packed the IMU ballroom on April 27th for the Walkmen/New Pornographers show, so clearly this was a show many people were eager to see. For me, this show was new territory as far as photography is concerned. The good people at Scope let me in to take some photos, but rather than being happily jammed in with hundreds of other fans, I was let loose in the pit for a few songs and then released back out into the streets of Iowa City. Needless to say, I didn’t get to see the show in it’s entirety. Even while I was within spitting distance of the musicians, it was hard to focus on the music while feverishly snapping what photos I could while climbing over wires and squeezing between speakers. So I can’t really tell you what it was like, only that those in the crowd seemed to be having a roaring good time.

Now, mind you, I am not complaining. I am thrilled to have been given press access to a big show like this, but it certainly is a complete one-eighty from the dark bars and relative freedom they bring to a photog like me. I say this only to compensate for the lack of any “review” that I would have otherwise included. With that said, here are the photos I was able to capture.
