Today is the first day for early voting in Iowa and local groups are working to make sure people are able to register, gather information on candidates and cast their ballots. The University of Iowa Democrats are gaining a little extra star power today with the help of beloved movie hero Sean Astin, who will be joining them this afternoon at the downtown Iowa City Java House.

Best known for his role as Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Mikey Walsh in The Goonies, Astin has been campaigning for Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party and is now helping to spread the word to the Iowa City community.

Not registered to vote? They’ll be registering voters on-site and votes can be cast immediately after. Can’t make it to Java House in time? People can register and vote at the Iowa City Public Library from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Check out the auditor’s page to take a look at the Johnson County and Linn County ballots.

  1. RUDY, I’m very disappointed with you, but Ashton is doing the Hollywood thing aswell. Higher taxes, more illegal immigrants without documentation. Hillary should be in jail, how much extra cash did the Clintons have, we will never know.
Did Sean Astin donate anything, because Hillary is losing in Iowa?
