Bo Ramsey & Highway 12 w/ Kelly Pardekooper
The Mill — Saturday, April 19 at 8 p.m. ($12-15)
Bo Ramsey and his band, Highway 12, will be playing The Mill this Saturday for what will surely be a legendary night of folk-rock and blues, with Kelly Pardekooper opening up the show. The show begins at 8 p.m. and tickets are $12 in advance, $15 day of show.
Eastern Iowa’s music scene is deeply indebted to Ramsey’s work. He’s been active in the Iowa blues scene since the ’70s and has earned a reputation as someone dedicated to his craft, with an ear for a huge variety of guitar tones. An inductee of both Iowa’s Rock n’ Roll Hall-of-Fame and Blues Hall-of-fame, Ramsey’s music slyly walks the lines of a number of genres, melding folk, rock, and blues into gritty, soulful portraits of Midwestern life.
Ramsey’s been making rounds as a producer for decades now, helping produce records like Lucinda William’s Grammy-nominated Essence and, most recently, Mason Jennings’s Always Been. He’s also appeared as a guitarist for countless folk and Americana records over the years, with credits on records by Pieta Brown, Iris Dement, and Calexico.
