Plastic Relations present “Like, Totally 80’s Night!!”
Yacht Club — Friday, March 20 at 8:30 p.m.
Iowa City’s Plastic Relations celebrate ‘80s fashion, video games and tunes at the Yacht Club on Friday.
“We wanted to come up with a theme for this show, and ‘80s music to start the spring just seemed to fit,” explained Sean Boarini, bassist and vocalist for the cover band. “We try to play songs that are fun for us to play and also make it fun for the audience, so the setlist has tons of songs everyone will know and sing along to.”
Boarini promises that many ’80s crowd-pleasing classics will be covered throughout the night, including A-ha’s “Take On Me,” Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” and the David Bowie and Queen collaboration, “Under Pressure.” To really get into the spirit of the night, the group will wear a variety of outfits inspired by ’80s fashion while accompanied by a special light show, which they hope will give the atmosphere an ’80s arena rock feel. Attendees are encouraged to dress up as well, reducing their admission price by a dollar if they choose to embrace the best (and worst) of the decade’s fashion choices.
During an intermission between the band’s sets, attendees will have the chance to indulge in some Nintendo nostalgia and compete against each other on the classic 8-bit video game console in a bracket-style tournament competition. Special ‘80s-themed prizes will be awarded to the winners of the competition, as well as to those sporting the best ’80s outfits.
