Pop punk juggernauts Green Day made a stop at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines Monday night. The California three piece is touring on their 12th studio release “Revolution Radio,” and they brought punk rock outfit Against Me! to open.

Green Day has perfected the big rock show working their way through over 30 years of music. Fans get pulled on stage to help sing some of the band’s classic material, and the rest of the show is punctuated with pyrotechnics, statements of resistance to the current political climate and plenty of crowd interaction.

At once point frontman Billie Joe Armstrong spoke directly to a fan who was filming the show on their phone: “When You’re looking at me through your phone, you’re not looking at me!” encouraging everyone to be present in the moment and just enjoy what was happening.
