More Show Photos: Del the Funky Homosapien – 6/21

Well, folks, I am not going to rehash the details of this great show because AC Hawley already wrote a great review that you should read…here. I will say that I have never seen such a mass of people in an Iowa City venue in all of the 12 years I’ve lived here….this crowd rivaled those of Will Whitmore and Guided by Voices, who also know how to pack a house. The incredible heat produced by eager Del fans was enough to cause me some major lens fog problems despite it being a warm summer night outside the walls of the Blue Moose. (It actually turned into a rad, hazy filter in the first few shots I took.) Even being up on stage, away from the oppressive, perspiring crowd was a lot like being slowly baked in a convection oven. Yet it did nothing to damper the enthusiasm among those in attendance. Things perked up even more when the security staff started pouring gallon jugs of water over the crowd and passing out handfuls of ice cubes. Bukue One even called upon Blue Moose staff to retrieve the cases of cold Rolling Rock they had stashed so they could throw them out to the thirsty congregation. I give props to those who stuck it out til the end, as I had to escape about three-quarters of the way into Del’s set. Enough about the heat, here’s what I saw.
