Good news for those who like to travel cheap! Megabus announced today that it will add Davenport, Iowa to its list of Midwest service locations beginning on Jan. 21, offering Iowa City residents a new travel alternative for trips to the Quad City area.

Currently, Megabus in Iowa City services only Chicago, Omaha and Des Moines.

Though service won’t begin for a couple weeks, tickets to and from Davenport are available online for dates following the Jan. 21 launch. Megabus trips between Iowa City and Davenport will take about 1 hour and 15 minutes, the company estimates.

“We’re always looking for opportunities for growth, and we thought that Davenport would be a natural,” said Mike Alvich, vice president of public relations for Megabus.

“It has a great college community there, and it’s a vibrant community in itself,” Alvich said.

“We think we’re going to be able to bring people into the Quad City area, as airlines do, and help contribute to the local economy,” he added.

Megabus plans on adding additional Midwest cities to its service area in the near-future, though no other locations have been announced at this time.

“It’s all kind of in the planning stages,” Alvich said.
