Local Foods Connection Spring Fling Fundraiser
Celebration Farms — Thursday, May 21 from 7-10 p.m.
With the goal of providing healthier options for low-income families and individuals, Local Foods Connection is hosting its inaugural Spring Fling fundraiser this Thursday, May 21 at Celebration Farm in Iowa City.
Local Foods Connection is a group of community activists who connect area residents with fresh, local food. They also donate fresh produce to low-income families and individuals, while also providing classes on healthy cooking and eating methods.
โWe are acting on our mission through this event by providing food that is grown by the producers in the Iowa City area, using local caterers and businesses,โ said Cassidy Bell, program director and event coordinator for Local Foods Connection. โWe support this local food economy and the people that live here.โ
In addition to raising money through ticket sales, there will be a silent auction with 25 items donated by local businesses, including a free night at the Sheraton and credits for the Iowa City Farmers Market. Bidding for the auction started on May 2 and will continue through the event this Thursday. All proceeds will go in support of Local Foods Connection.
The Jenny Nettles Stringband, an Iowa City-based folk band, will perform during the event.
Food at the event will be sourced from Local Food providers and prepared by Full Moon Cafe. Wine from Soldier Creek Winery will be included as well.
The event will take place at Celebration Farm (4694 Robin woods Ln. NE) in Iowa City on Thursday, May 21 from 7-10 p.m. Tickets are $40 for one person, or $75 for two people, and can be purchased online.
