Summer is coming: lineup is announced for Friday Night Concert Series

The Maytags will play as part of the Friday Night Concert Series this summer.

Summer of the Arts has announced the lineup for this year’s Friday Night Concert Series, which will bring almost 20 acts to the Ped Mall on weekend evenings between late May and early September.

The City High and West High Jazz Ensembles will kick off the series on May 20.

Returning favorites include Winterland, which will provide a tribute to the Grateful Dead (June 24), and The Fez, which will pay homage to Steely Dan (June 27).

The Maytags will bring their neo-soul to the stage on July 22. “We plan to pop our heads up there as much as possible this year,” the band’s frontman, Dustin Smith, told Little Village earlier this year.

And on July 29, singer-songwriter Elizabeth Moen will perform. An LV reviewer recently compared her to “Joni Mitchell, Janis Ian and Judee Sill.”

Each concert will run from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on the Weatherdance Fountain Stage outside the Sheraton Iowa City Hotel.
