Iowa State Sen. Joni Ernst released a pretty special campaign ad yesterday. Have you seen it?
“I grew up castrating hogs on an Iowa farm,” Ernst says, looking positively delighted. “So when I get to Washington, I’ll know how to cut pork.”
How’s that for political cred? The rest of the ad embraces a fairly straightforward conservative platform — the desire to cut wasteful spending, repeal Obamacare, balance the budget and so on — before ending with another jab.
“Washington’s full of big spenders,” Ernst says. “Let’s make em’ squeal.”
We’re still talking about cutting pork, right? It’s easy to get a little lost in that castration metaphor, what with the references to big spenders and all.
Ernst, a Republican, is currently running for U.S. Senate in a bid to replace Democrat Tom Harkin, who plans to retire at the end of his term in 2015. She is campaigning against Democratic U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley for the seat.
