Andrew W.K. in Iowa City
Andrew W.K. was in Iowa City Thursday performing at the Blue Moose Tap House.

Andrew W.K. brought The Party Messiah Tour to Iowa City’s very own Blue Moose Tap House Thursday with support from Quad City pop punkers Straight Up. W.K. worked his way through many of his party classics like “Its time to party,” “Ready to die,” “I get wet” and of course “Party Hard.”

With only a keyboard and a backup vocalist/hype man, W.K. whipped the rowdy crowd into a frenzy and they soon overtook the stage.”The crowd is the stage, the stage is the crowd. Thats the way it should be,” he said, before apologizing about the poor view to those too timid to get on stage. In-between songs, W.K. showed off his piano chops (he is classically trained) and even jammed on Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in blue”. The hard partying crowd went wild during “I love NYC,” with New York City being changed to Iowa City, of course. Andrew W.K. mission is to party, I’d say that mission was accomplished in Iowa City.
