Iris DeMent

The Englert Theatre — Saturday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m.

Touring off the release of her most recent album, The Trackless Woods, Iowa City-based folk musician Iris DeMent will play The Englert Theatre this Saturday, Nov. 21. at 8 p.m.

The Trackless Woods is a concept album that utilizes the English translations (by Babette Deutsch and Lyn Coffin) of Anna Akhmatova’s poetry set to melodies created by DeMent. This album marks DeMent’s sixth studio album in her 23-year-long career, though it was recorded in her living room here in Iowa City. The 18 songs that make-up the record are simultaneously distinctive of both DeMent and Akhmatova. When discussing the record, DeMent comments, “The first four or five I did, the melodies came while I was reading them the first time. That still mystifies me.”

Tickets are still available for the show, be sure to grab them before Saturday to save a couple of bucks.
