wkndr-pieta

Tonight is the last night of Pieta Brown‘s November “residency” at the Mill – 3 unique shows with a different supporting cast and featuring the work of visual artists like Zoe Brown, Dustin Busch, Codi Josephson and, tonight, Sandy Dyas.  Dustin Busch returns – this time with his geetar – and Pieta performs with a full band, Skyrocket.

For a taste of how these shows have gone so far, check out Play B Sides‘ great review of last week’s show.

Then, if you happen to get all wound up and want to keep shakin a leg till the wee hours, head to the Picador’s “Dance for Our Neighbors” two-floor dance party.  Bring a canned food item or $2 for the Crisis Center Food Bank of Johnson County and enjoy DJs Polynation, Flyentology, TUTT and The BEAN.

Here’s a list of items that are especially needed:

Peanut Butter
Diapers (size 5)
Baby Formula
Canned Meat
Canned Fruit
Canned Vegetables
Soups & Stews
Pasta & Rice
Toilet Paper

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

Sorry to break format, but I’m all mixed up over what to put first.  These will be two great nights for live music:

Roots grassers Cornmeal throw two jamtastic hoe downs at the Yacht Club ($10 per night or $16 for both), and the Mill brings a whole host of bands I don’t want to miss: The Pines this Friday, Haley Bonar, Sin Ropas and the Vagabonds this Saturday – something for everybody between all these parties, so please feel free to mix friend-groups.  Wear a name tag, introduce yourself….

SATURDAY MORNING

Dead Larry | Magic Bus  (817 Melrose) | 10 am | $10/$15, Minnesota @ Iowa, 11:02 am

Local funk band Dead Larry plays what might be the last party at the legendary Magic Bus.  Celebrate a great (though cardiologically hazardous) season by dancing away those Rose Bowl blues, raising a glass to the 9-2 Hawks and admiring the spectacle of Golden Gopher guts getting splattered all over Kinnick Stadium for the last time (this season).  Congratulations footballers, and thanks for the memories.  Can I get a Go Hawks?

See you there,
~LV
