Hello, and welcome to another Weekender. I’m going to keep this short because that’s just the way it has to be. The major thing this weekend is the Mission Creek festival. It wasn’t on the cover of the March issue because we were bored. It’s a massively cool event featuring lectures, performances, readings, and exploration of the various spaces in this town. There will be touring acts playing at the larger venues like the Mill and Blue Moose. There will be local/regional acts playing free shows at Revival Friday and Studio 13 on Friday and Saturday. Both of these showcases will be in the afternoon, starting at 5. Saturday will also feature a three-round lit crawl that will move participants from The Mill to the Northside bars as well as a book fair. I can’t recommend checking out any of the events in this festival enough if you haven’t started already.

For more information, check the insert in the March issue of Little Village, which is posted on this website. Click the face of John Waters (who is performing his one-man performance at the Englert this Friday) that is to the right for a virtual copy or go to Public Space One (among many other places) for a physical copy. While you’re at PS One, say hi to whatever band is down there. For a full schedule and show prices, visit Mission Creek. If you are unsure about what you want to go to, listen to KRUI from 12-6 PM as they will be having live performances and interviews from many of the bands playing this festival. I’m sure that you will find something that you will like.

The only other thing that I want to note this weekend outside of the festival is a comedian.

FRIDAY: Joel McHale // Iowa Memorial Union // 10:00 PM // $5, 18+

If you watch television, the name Joel McHale might be familiar to you. As the host of E!’s The Soup, McHale has been routinely making jokes at the expense of reality television stars, much to the delight of everyone. If you don’t watch The Soup, you might yet again know McHale from the NBC sitcom Community as Jeff Winger, the leader of a ragtag study group that navigates life as well as the insanity that is Greendale Community College. He’s long been a favorite of mine. A very funny comedian, this should be a nice stand-up performance for a cheap price.

Get into the groove and have fun this weekend. Love your neighbors and check out the festival. Come back here everyday to check out new audio, video, and photos from the shows during the festival. Adrienne and Drew amongst an army of others have been awesome about getting excellent footage of the shows up here at Little Village.
