Perhaps freedom isn’t free, but 4th of July weekend is!
Jazz Fest (July 3-5) is bringing some of the biggest names in Jazz to downtown Iowa City — all for our very free enjoyment — AND, when the festival finishes around 9:30/10? The Mill is inviting the musicians over for jam sessions both Friday and Saturday night, also FREE.
ALSO The Picador is getting into the free-ness fest with their FREE SHOW FREE FOR ALL, Friday Night.
Damn, it’s good to be Free!
Thanks to Steve Grismore, Jazz Fest co-founder and music director, for being our special guest last night on Little Village on the Air (5-6 pm Wednesdays, KRUI). Steve helped us gain a full appreciation for the musicians that are coming this weekend– truly some living legends, including Bill Frisell, Chris Potter, Dave Holland, David Sanchez and young Trombone Shorty– If you didn’t get the chance to tune in live, fear not! You can also find this episode archived on our website.
OR, simply read, look and listen ahead for the recap~ Here are some of the artists (though I prefer to call them “cats”) you’ll be able to see downtown this weekend at Jazz Fest.
David Sanchez Quartet – 8 – 9:30 Friday night
Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue – 6 – 7:30 Saturday
Lionel Loueke Trio – 8 – 9:30 Saturday
Chris Potter’s Underground – 4 – 5:30 Sunday
Bill Frisell Quartet – 6 – 7:30 Sunday
Dave Holland Quintet – 8 – 9:30 Sunday
Also, Saturday night, Daddy-O will be performing at the Yacht Club. Always the crowd pleaser, be warned that Daddy-O might just bring some fireworks of his own down there to the Yacht Club basement, so please do wear your protective head gear!
Till next time~
Enjoy your Freedom… Start with your Weekend!
