This weekend we have two of Iowa City’s main events for summer 2010, so we’ll try to include enough info and links here to get you primed for both of them.

CAMP EUFORIA

Fans of the genre will find the best in festival-world-bluejazz jamz at Camp Euforia. Among the upsides: Camping, good vibes, a big light show, and a pretty diverse lineup including the big energy of one man hip-hop looper Heatbox – guaranteed to get your head bobbing and your jaw slacked – two spinoffs (consequences?) of the String Cheese Incident, Kyle Hollingsworth and EOTO, the big-in-Colorado Mountain Standard Time, and string rockers Henhouse Prowlers.

Heatbox

Of course hosting the party will be former Iowa City band Euforquestra. Veterans of the festival circuit, they know what’s good – kudos to them for putting together an all-star lineup.

The downside: $55 advance, $75 at the door. I say get over it: It will feel like you went away for the weekend, and $75 is a cheap vacation, sorta, right? Whether or not it is the type of vacation you’d enjoy, well that’s up to you.

Perhaps you’d prefer the stay-cation?

If you are feeling bookish, your very own City of Literature will be on display all weekend at various IC locations, thanks to the…

IOWA CITY BOOK FESTIVAL.

“Roast of Iowa City” – ICBF Event Page

That’s right, the theme for this year’s contest was Roast This Town. “Roasts” were anonymously judged by LV editors and the winners will be reading them this Sunday at 3 pm, at Prairie Lights. Motley Cow Cafe has generously donated snacks, and the Times Club will be open, featuring fine wine, coffee and snacks. A wine-tasting will follow featuring Tom Lally of Okoboji Wines. If your pallet needs refreshing, he will help you find the perfect pairing for a summer day in the City of Literature. LV Contributor Yale Cohn will be the afternoon’s MC.

Please come say hi!

Whether you are feeling musical or bookish, make it a great weekend, Iowa City!
