The weather has ruled my summer. The past month has been spent preparing for and recoiling from the floods…that one’s a given. But from rained-out softball games to the perfect-sky of the jazz fest, I’ve been watching the sky more than ever. This weekend will be no exception.
Thursday, July 10
Bike-In Theater | PATV, 206 Lafeyette St. | Sunset | Free
Forecast: Mostly sunny, mid-70s, hilarious. The first Bike-In Theater event of the summer is a collection of (mostly) comedic short films, including “Heat Vision & Jack” a send-up of the 70s/80s action classics like Knight Rider, The Incredible Hulk and Six Million Dollar Man. Directed by Ben Stiller and starring a young Jack Black and Owen Wilson as a talking motorcycle. Other shorts include “What To Do On A Date” and “Elvis Meets the Beatles.”

Camp Euforia | 5335 Utah Ave SE, Lone Tree | 4:30-Bedtime, Saturday all day | $45 / $40 advance
Another weekend…another music festival. If you’re going to spend the dough, you might as well make a weekend of it. Bring your tent, your favorite snacks and beverages (in aluminum and plastic only) and other wookie necessities down to Lone Tree for a weekend of music and camping. Jam with a crammed line-up featuring local mainstays Euforquestra, Public Property, Bob Dorr, the Gglitch and The Diplomats plus out-of-towners Cornmeal and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. Many others as well.

A Winter’s Tale | Opstad Auditorium, City High | 8:00pm | $25-37
Riverside Theatre wraps up the annual Shakespeare run this weekend with showings of both Comedy of Errors and A Winter’s Tale. As everyone knows, the venue has changed, but the show is still top-notch. Besides, with so many of our cultural institutions suffering, it’s our civic duty to show our support with our entertainment dollars.

All Call #2 | Westdale Mall parking lot, Cedar Rapids | All Day | Free + lunch
Okay, not exactly entertainment, but a can’t-miss nonetheless. Cedar Rapids leaders have issued their second all call for volunteers. There’s still plenty of clean-up needed in the City of Five Seasons and affected home owners are growing weary. Help them out. The All Call continues on Sunday.
Johnny Nobody | The Picador | 9:30pm
Being labeled “Buffalo’s best band” by a number of publication ought to count for something. While I don’t think of myself as an expert on the Lake Erie music scene, I do know that I like what I hear. The New York power trio brings their powerpop to the Picador with openers The Wheelers and Lipstick Homicide.
Friday, July 11-Sunday, July 13
