Iowa City Weekender: January 14-18

This week’s Weekender is brought to you by ICPL’s eAudio Collection

The Laramie Project | Theatre Cedar Rapids (4444 1st Ave SE) | 7:30 | $12-$25

From TCR

Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard, and constructed a deeply moving theatrical work from these interviews and their own experiences.

The play opens tonight, and runs through the 24th.  Tomorrow night, Friday, expect a crowd of protesters, lead by Rev Fred Phelps, and also expect a counter-protesting Wall of Angels. And if there are any heads out there who like to touch the mic from time to time and kick some freesties with the home boys, there may just be a lil somethin’ for you at the end…

So you can let out the things that stir in your mind when you are stuck staring hate in the face, unable to make a sound.  Pretty good night for all you hardcore heads that aren’t too cynical to look, listen and rap, huh.  Do it!

You know what is terrifying?  Being born.  You know what you want?  I nice blanky.

From the organizers:

Join the Preemie Project in sewing Blankets and Sleeper Sacks for donation to the UIHC NICU and PICU. Sewing skills are not necessary for participation. The UIHC needs 1100 blankets and 900 blankets sleepers each year. So, we need A LOT of help to make this weekend successful!! We are seeking donations of fleece, flannel, thread and scissors. We also need help with prepping materials and cutting out blankets and sleeper sacks.

My nephew was premature, and thanks to expert care he made a quick and comfy recovery.  Put a little joy in their little hearts with a nice snuggly little blanky!

Also, Saturday night: Wee… The Vagabonds @ Blue Moose Tap House (Facebook Event Page)

Oh and this Monday at the Mill

Have a great weekend!
