Indulge your tastebuds with food from all over the world at the the International Food Fair and Auction this Saturday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids.

Visitors will be able to enjoy cuisine from 14 countries, including Syria, Egypt, Thailand, Somalia and Kosovo. Items like Malaysian noodles, tabouli, bryiani, Lebanese pastries, Moroccan tea and crepes will be available to purchase a la carte, and guests will be able to enjoy them at the fair or take them home.

Bid on rugs, furniture and unique gifts from around the world at the silent auction. Additionally, gift certificates from various area businesses and tickets to Hawkeye and Cyclones athletic games will be available to bid on.

All proceeds of the event go to purchasing educational materials for the students at Cedar Rapids’ My Iman Montessori, the first full-time, private Islamic school in Eastern Iowa.

“Instead of holding a bazaar that sold only Middle Eastern food, we decided to make it more international,” said Surriah Igram, International Food Fair organizer and chairman of the board at MIM. “Our inspiration to do this came from the children at My Iman Montessori. We have such a diverse group of children, and we felt that all of these cultures should be celebrated.”
