The Holiday Market at Robert A. Lee Recreation Center scheduled for Saturday has been canceled, the Iowa City Department of Parks and Recreation announced Friday morning. The cancellation came after the National Weather Service issued an ice storm warning for several eastern Iowa counties, including Johnson County.

The ice storm warning runs from midnight to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

“Significant icing expected,” according to the Quad Cities NWS office’s warning. “Total ice accumulations of two tenths to one quarter of an inch.”

The NWS said, “Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible.”

Parks and Recreation said the holiday market will not be rescheduled.

“We understand the effort that goes into participating, and it is incredibly disappointing to have to cancel,” Bill Lee, recreation director for Iowa City said in a news release. “However, with the severe weather forecasted, we must prioritize the safety of everyone involved.”
