Hinterland set to return to St. Charles, Iowa

Hinterland Music Festival

Avenue of the Saints Amphitheater — Aug. 5-6

The Hinterland Music Festival just announced that they will return to the Avenue of the Saints Amphitheater in St. Charles, Iowa on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5-6, 2016. The teaser announcement offered no further details regarding line-up, ticketing or camping, but confirmed the date and location for eager music festival lovers.

Last summer marked the inaugural for the festival, which was originally set to be hosted in Des Moines’ Waterworks Park but due to a flash flood was relocated to the Avenue of the Saints Amphitheater, an outdoor amphitheater nestled neatly in a valley only 30 miles south of Des Moines. Many of the festival goers were pleasantly surprised by the last minute relocation, which offered free camping in close proximity to the festival grounds. The could-have-been-disasterous situation ended serendipitously for organizers, who chose to keep the location for the second annual Hinterland.

First Fleet’s Sam Summers acts as curator for the festival, hand-picking the musicians set to perform. The 2015 festival showcased music ranging from folk legends, Old Crow Medicine Show, to seasoned modern rockers, TV on the Radio. In addition to two full days of music, there are local craft and food vendors, on-site art installations and family friendly activities.
