Good news for all you caffeine addicts out there: High Ground Cafe has expanded to the Iowa River Landing in Coralville.

The Iowa City-based coffeeshop opened its second location today, bringing espresso drinks and freshly baked goods to the growing River Landing area. The new High Ground Cafe is at 925 E 2nd Ave., next to Scratch Cupcakery in the former location of Water Street Coffee Bar.

They’re serving up the same beverage menu as the original Iowa City location, including organic Kickapoo coffee, a variety of organic teas, fresh-squeezed lemonade, fresh fruit smoothies and a rotating selection of wine and beer.

Although the new location does not yet offer the full food menu of the original location, it does offer baked goods including banana bread and coffee cake, which are made from scratch.

High Ground owner and operator Wesley Ward said that they had been considering the Iowa River Landing even before opening the original location on Market Street. After Water Street Coffee closed, he said they saw the chance to pursue the area and fill the need left in the community.

With brightly colored walls and warm wood accents, he said they are “working on bringing the same comfortable, relaxed vibe of the original cafe to this one.”

Ward said they are currently accepting submissions from artists to feature their work in the space for three-month periods, as well as applications for employment, at wesleyward@highgroundcafe.com.
