The Associated Press released their first Top 25 Poll of the NCAA college football season Sunday morning, and the boys in Black and Gold clocked in at No. 17. The Hawkeyes were the top-ranked Big Ten West team on the definitive preseason poll and one of four total Big Ten Teams represented — Ohio State peaked at 6, Michigan at 7 and Michigan State at 12.

Iowa dodges both the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan State Spartans on this season’s cross-division schedule, though they will be hosting the Michigan Wolverines for a sold-out game under the lights at Kinnick on Nov. 12.

The USA Today Amway Coaches poll was a little sweeter on the Hawks, ranking them 15 on their Top 25.

Last year the Iowa Hawkeyes were not featured on the AP’s Top 25, but appeared at 64 on the AP’s expanded rankings.

The Stanford Cardinal, the team that handed Iowa a humiliating loss in last year’s Rose Bowl, was seeded nine spots ahead of the Hawks at 8.
