Singer-songwriter Sarah Jarosz will play at the Englert Theater Thursday, July 14 as part of her national tour. The tour is in promotion of her most recent album, Undercurrent. The Wall Street Journal remarked that the record’s “country-flavored folk songs” were “simple” and “intimate” and that “her soprano remains pure and affecting.”

Nominated for Grammy? Holy mackerel.

Twice in fact. Her tune “Mansinneedof” was nominated for Best Country Instrumental Performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards and her album Build Me Up from Bones was nominated for Best Folk Album at the 2014 Grammys.

Prodigious

At 25 years old, Jarosz’s has released four studio albums. She signed with Sugar Hill Records at sixteen and produced her first three albums while a student at the New England Conservatory of Music.

The show is slated 8 p.m. with the opening act The Brother Brothers hitting the stage first. Tickets are $22 online and $25 at the door.

On the road again

Thursday’s show marks the last stop on the Midwestern leg of her tour, with previous performances in Minneapolis and Chicago. From Iowa City Jarosz will be heading south and up to the Pacific Northwest and Alaska before flying across the pond for a UK tour.
