Brooklyn’s The Shondes shacked up at The Blue Moose Tap House Friday to kick off an excellent weekend for Iowa City’s music enthusiasts. Though we struggle to recall any Iowa City weekend that hasn’t oozed countless of watts of live music bliss, the East coast foursome got things started properly by launching into full set of low-distortion indie rock.
Violinist Elijah Oberman added a nice bit of texture to Louisa Solomon’s crisp vocals, both of whom launch into the occasional duet to push each song straight into the stratosphere. You’ll find a couple clips from their Friday performance below, but keep in mind there’s always more available in our Youtube channel.
Local blues band Adobanga followed up The Shondes with a catchy set of their own. Not wasting any time, Adobanga dove into a uptempo tune for their opening number, viewable below.
While you’re at it, feel free to check out the final video for footage of The Mayflies, Iowa City’s perennial bluegrass troupe. The group plucked and strummed late into the night at The Yacht Club, much to the delight of bluegrass aficionados who remembered to put on their dancing shoes.
