Jeff Roalson is a heart-throb and Iowa City musician who leads indie rock bands The Olympics and Teen Daad. As evidenced by his bands, Jeff has a huge knowledge and appreciation for indie rock. He was kind enough to answer some questions and tell us about those who inspire him.
Teen Daad will be playing at the Blue Moose Taphouse this Saturday, February 15, with Dana T and All Dogs Invited. The Olympics will be playing at The Mill next Friday, February 21, with Mumford’s and Brooks Strause and the Gory Details.
1. Bands you’re listening to now?
I’ve been listening to the latest Arctic Monkeys record, AM, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. This one is a little out of left field but I’ve also been pretty into Teddy Pendergrass. That guy knows how to croon.
2. Artist you wish would pull you up on stage?
If Annie Clark (St. Vincent) pulled me up on stage with her I could die in peace and know all was well with the world.
3. Favorite piece of musical equipment?
My favorite piece of musical equipment that I own is my Rickenbacker guitar. My Rick and I have been together for a couple years now but we’re still riding the honeymoon stage.
4. Favorite pizza topping?
First of all, I’m really serious about pizza. At the expense of sounding boring, I would say sausage is my favorite. A really good sausage can take a plain old pizza pie to the next level. I also am very fond of artichoke on my pizzas.
5. Dream collaboration?
My favorite songwriters are probably Christopher Owens (Girls) and Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) so if I was able to collaborate writing a song with either of them I would be dangerously blissful and honored.
