DES MOINES (February 10, 2015) – Announcing the first annual Hinterland Music Festival, on Friday and Saturday, July 31 – August 1: Two days of music curated for Midwesterners who love both urban settings and the outdoors. True to its name, Hinterland will be held in Des Moines’ Water Works Park, a beautiful oasis in the center of the city. The festival is set to encompass a diverse blend of relevant musicians, and in addition festival goers can expect cyclist events, on-site sculpture and art installations, craft vendors, family engagement and more.

Alt-country songstress Brandi Carlile, synth pop darlings Future Islands, indie stalwarts TV on the Radio and the bluegrass wizardry of Yonder Mountain String Band further strengthen the bill, along with the electrifying Southern soul of St. Paul & The Broken Bones and the introspective folk of Joe Pug. Four additional acts will be announced soon, with set times being released in April.

About Hinterland Music Festival
hinterland [hin-ter-land] The land behind a river. The rural area near a city. A backwater.
Hinterland Music Festival, July 31-August 1, is two days of music curated for Midwesterners who love both the urban and the outdoors. True to its name, Hinterland is held in Des Moines’ Water Works Park, a beautiful oasis in the center of the city. In its first year, the festival will also feature a diverse blend of art, cyclist events, craft vendors, family engagement and more.
Hinterland is organized by First Fleet Concerts, a live music and entertainment business based in Des Moines, Iowa. Formed by Sam Summers in 2003, First Fleet produces hundreds of shows each year in Des Moines and around the Midwest, including Minneapolis, Omaha, Lincoln, Iowa City and Bloomington, Ind.). After years of booking into clubs, theaters, amphitheaters and arenas, in 2012 Sam opened Wooly’s, a venue in Des Moines that enables First Fleet to host mid-sized club shows and programming.
The company has brought a wide variety of artists and shows to the community, including the last five years of Nitefall on the River. First Fleet produced their first arena show in 2013 and this year they’re using over ten years of professional experience to bring a unique festival to the Midwest.
