Exclusive track: Elizabeth Moen’s cover of ‘True Love Will Find You In the End’

Caroline Smith w/ Elizabeth Moen

Big Grove Brewery and Taproom, Iowa City — Thursday, Feb. 15 at 9 p.m.,$10-15

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Iowa City songbird Elizabeth Moen releases a dreamy cover of avant-pop singer-songwriter Daniel Johnston’s 1985 call to action love song “True Love Will Find You in the End,” off of his seventh self-released cassette, Retired Boxer. The well-loved tune has been covered before — including 2004’s recording by Beck, for a Johnston tribute album and as Wilco’s 1999 B-side to “A Shot in the Arm.”

Moen’s release comes a day before her Thursday night gig, co-sponsored by Big Grove Brewery and Little Village. The 9 p.m. show has Moen opening for Minneapolis-born musician Caroline Smith, best known for fronting indie-folk darlings the Good Night Sleeps for over a decade. Both women will be offering solo performances. Tickets for the Feb. 15 show are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
