ESPN has released a roster for their Iowa Hawkeyes “All-Century Team.” The list (they compiled one for each Big Ten school) is a dream team line up drawn from all players who have played for the school since 2000. Senior defensive back Desmond King, the 2015 Jim Thorpe Award winner, was the only current Hawkeye to make the list.
The star-studded roster includes quarterback Brad Banks, All-American lineman Adrian Clayborn, NFL Pro-Bowler Chad Greenway, first-round draft picks and Outland Trophy-winning tackles Brandon Scherff and Robert Gallery, NFL kicker and hometown hero Nate Kaeding and many other beloved Hawkeyes.
The Hawks were also featured on SB Nation’s season preview series, with Bill Connelly offering a statistical breakdown of Iowa’s magic 12-0, 2015 season as well as a prognostication for 2016. Does he believe the Hawks are primed for a repeat on the magic carpet ride? Perhaps, though not likely.
“A magical run is, by definition, almost impossible to replicate,” Connelly notes in the piece. “It uses up most of your dark arts quota. It also sets a bar that you probably can’t clear.”
We’ll still be carrying the torch here at LV until the Hawks kickoff against against Miami of Ohio on Sep. 3, and keeping our fingers crossed in the hopes of another improbable run.
