Vitality Dance Studio in Cedar Rapids is sending its burlesque troupe, The Va Va Voom, south to the CCPA — their first performance in Coralville — for a one-night show to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The event is also in support of Vitality founder Cat Cantrillโ€™s nomination as the LLS Woman of the Year. Tickets are $25; the show is 18+.

Kick Ass Red Lipstick is an online group of support and empowerment for women, also founded by Cantrill. It seeks to expand the goals that Vitality pursues locally, giving women the โ€œgift of transformationโ€ and encouraging them to invest in themselves. A book by Cantrill about the movement, Kick Ass Red Lipstick: Rebel Women Unite, was released in January of this year.

Cantrill’s Cedar Rapids studio offers classes in burlesque, lap dance and belly dancing, as well as fitness and confidence courses. The Va Va Voom debuted in August of 2014 and has been entertaining Cedar Rapids and the surrounding area ever since.

Genevieve Trainor lives in Iowa City, Iowa. Passions include heavy music, hoppy beer, and hidden rooms.
