Kronos Quartet

Englert Theatre — Saturday, at Feb 7 at 7:30 p.m.

The world-renowned Kronos Quartet comes to the Englert Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 7 to perform their new multimedia project Beyond Zero: 1914-1918. Composed by Aleksandra Vrebalov and accompanied by Bill Morrison’s short film, Beyond Zero is an immersive experience combining music and film to explore the horrors of World War One.

Kronos Quartet violinist David Harrington was inspired by his lack of knowledge regarding the First World War to build a moving, yet educational collaboration. With a combination of archived military sound bites, digitized 35mm film footage and an interpretation of anti-war music, Beyond Zero creatively commemorates 100 years since the beginning of WWI.

Preceding the presentation of Beyond Zero, a new work by composer Mary Kouyoumdjian will be performed as part of Kronos: Under 30 Project. The program is designed to assist the careers of young artists, and Kouyoumdjian is the fifth composer commissioned to compose for the quartet as part of the project.
