The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) announced Thursday in a news release they are changing their bus fare price to $1 on the MyDART app from April 4 to May 31.

The normal price of bus fare is $1.75. DART officials are hoping the 75-cent savings will ease transportation costs on the community.

“Gas, groceries and rent are among the most significant contributors to the rising costs many consumers are grappling with,” DART Chief External Affairs Officer Erin Hockman said. “By making an already affordable means of transportation even more affordable, we hope more people will consider using DART and experiencing firsthand just how much money they can save.”

When riding with DART, you can pay your bus fare in cash or though the mobile app.

According to AAA, the average price of regular gas in Iowa is $3.85. That’s over a dollar more than last year’s average of $2.77. For Des Moines, the average price of regular gas is $3.86 — also more than a dollar more than last year’s price of $2.78.
